Northern Ireland Short Film Shoot!

The shooting of our short film, 'Ribbons', is now complete!

Supermom trainees directed and acted
Ribbons is a short film that follows a woman's life for five decades. We first meet her when she is ten years old and follow her right up until her 50th birthday party. She suffers through some hard times and we see how these events shape and change the course of her life. We also see how she comes through these experiences a better and stronger person, and how her life is constantly shifting and changing.

Ribbons is a mixture of normal, half speed and stop motion filming. It was filmed entirely at Media Zoo Studios in Belfast. The trainees from Belfast wrote the script, built their own set and were also responsible for locating the props and costumes that the film required. Several trainees took on the role of scene directors and directors' assistants, while others handled the scenery, props and costumes throughout the shoot. They are now involved in recording voice-overs and learning about sound editing, and will be learning more about the film editing process as it continues.

When the sound recording and editing is finished, we'll post behind-the-scenes footage to show you all how the trainees, trainer, and professionals worked together to create 'Ribbons'. In the meantime, enjoy these photos from the two-day shoot at Media Zoo!

The trainees built their own set and sourced props and costumes for every decade (1970s to present)
Hair and make-up for the 1970s scene
13 trainees + 1 trainer + pros + 2 busy days on set = 1 short film!

And don't forget to check out our Supermom Kick-Off Facebook page and the Supermom Kick-Off 2010 website for more updates about the project!

We welcome warmly All Participants of Supermom-Kick-Off Project!

Witamy serdecznie Wszystkich Uczestników Programu Supermom-Kick-Off!

Jesteśmy grupą samodzielnych rodziców z Polski, mieszkających i uczestniczących w projekcie Supermom w Łodzi.

(Wikipedia).

Mieliśmy też okazję obejrzeć i przeanalizować pod kątem warsztatowym kilka filmów („Man of Aran”, „Tabu”, fragmenty „Inside job” oraz „Life in a day”).

Workshop Empower Tag 5 / #Leipzig

Supermom Belfast Week 4

This week in Belfast we looked at the more artistic side of filmmaking.  On Monday we had a visit from Janine who had trained as a makeup artist at a local makeup school: http://www.themakeupdept.com/.  She spoke to the group about life as a makeup artist and showed us all how to make realistic scars!  Janine's visit was a lot of fun and the group learned about how important the role of a makeup artist is in filmmaking.

We also spent a day looking at the Art Department and their role in filmmaking.  We looked at sets, locations and also props to see how they are integral to establishing elements about character and also the narrative of a script.  The class took part in several creative exercises.  During one exercise they worked in small groups and planned a script based only on a picture of a character, a set and a location.  These pictures were very different from each other and this made the exercise very challenging.  But as usual everyone got involved and we had some really amazing results! Here are a few of their stories:

"Drake"

Drake is the most popular rockstar on the planet.  Fans queue for days just to get a glimpse of him.  But his groupies have a tendency to mysteriously disappear...Beware of invitations to his sumptuous after parties, held in his glorious castle in Wexford.  Guests are impressed by the long drive through the dark forest to his huge castle, hidden amongst the trees.  But there are reports of mysterious bite marks appearing on his guests' wrists and necks.  There are also rumours of previously normal men and women, who have attended his parties, needing to be institutionalised shortly after and spending their days ranting about hidden spaceships.  There are also rumours of sinister classification systems.  But what are these people being classified for?  Slaves? Concubines? Food...?
